Restless Me - The Journal of World Travel
Our roving travel writer Joe Franklin gives a report from Guatemala with:
Fear and Loathing on a Chicken Bus
The public buses here in Guatemala are known as chicken buses, although I've never seen a chicken on one, and for the record don't know anyone else who has either. This simple fact doesn't keep them from being interesting though, the buses. Riding them is like a crapshoot -- either your driver is going to drive like his ass is on fire, or he's going to drive like he's merely loco.

yeah, I was there.
I went to a restaurant in orange county, very near the Richard Nixon Library last night with mom. pretty good food. The waitress asked "how is everything tasting?" It was really weird. Maybe it doesn't seem weird reading it, but waitresses always ask "how is everything" or "is everything alright" or shit like that. I think it's also grammatically confusing, as it seems like it could be understood as "everything is in the act of tasting", as if she is enquiring about the ability of the food to taste us, rather than the other way around. But I'm no expert. I'm wondering if a dialect is being developed down there. Or maybe she just has an innovation-driven manager. Quite likely - their "agave martini" is actually what I (and any cocktail book of any repute) would call a "real margarita" - tequila, cointreau, and lime, shaken, served up.

I got this in email from a guy who I interviewed with for an IT job, John Lubotsky.. he's in Palestine, and this is what he wrote..
Today in Balata we got a call that a dialysis patient had been detained at Asira checkpoint, aka "Sabatash" (17), on her way into Nablus to the hospital, a trip she has to make 3 times a week for treatment. Seven international and local activists arrived near the checkpoint about 11 am. Two waited on the road above while 5 of us went down to check on the patient. We were held up by two soldiers, who delayed us for about an hour by checking our bags and other delay tactics, not letting see the Palestinian detainees we had glimpsed on the way in. Finally one of us was able to sneak off to the detainees while the others distracted the two soldiers, and a few minutes later we were all able to join them, the soldiers apparently hoping that we would take the one international who was with the Palestinians and leave.
